CORE COMPONENTS / DRAWING-LED REVIEW

Segmented stator manufacturing. Your design, clear interfaces.

Request segmented stator manufacturing review from individual teeth to a wound and encapsulated assembly. Define the magnetic path, insulation and thermal interface before committing to tooling.

OEMs and R&D teams · Components or subassemblies · Scope confirmed after review

Segmented stator concept showing independent magnetic teeth, copper coils and a supporting carrier without a continuous stator yoke
Separate teeth, coils and carrier. Geometry is illustrative; pole count, dimensions and material are defined by the approved design.

DESIGN TO MANUFACTURING

A core drawing alone does not define a usable stator.

Tooth orientation, cut-edge condition, winding access and resin thickness interact. A part that meets its outer dimensions can still miss the intended magnetic or thermal behavior. Bring the loss model, coil envelope and cooling boundary into the same DFM review.

01

Choose the core route first

Compare a pressed SMC tooth with a laminated electrical-steel stack against your flux path, excitation frequency and loss data. Request grade-specific curves; the material family alone does not establish efficiency.

02

Separate core and winding scope

Request bare teeth, insulated cores, wound segments or a carrier assembly. State who owns the winding drawing, conductor choice, termination and phase connection so the quotation covers the same deliverable.

03

Design the heat path

Define coil-to-carrier contact, insulation and encapsulant requirements together. A resin thermal-conductivity headline does not establish the assembly thermal resistance or continuous current limit.

DFM / SCOPE & COST DRIVERS

SMC versus laminated steel: decide from the design inputs.

This is a DFM screening matrix, not a ranking of material performance. Confirm process availability, tooling and validation in the quotation.

AGREE THE EVIDENCE

Define acceptance before samples.

  • Identify material lot and the agreed supplier material documents.
  • Check tooth/stack dimensions, coating damage and assembly orientation.
  • Agree winding resistance at a stated temperature, phase identification and insulation tests.
  • Review encapsulation coverage, void acceptance method and final carrier interfaces.

A manufacturing review does not validate an electromagnetic model. Core loss, insulation life and continuous torque require an agreed component or motor test plan. Grain-oriented steel is a design-specific option, not an automatic upgrade.

Component results and assembled clearance are separate records. Test method, equipment, conditions and release responsibility are agreed per project.

START WITH NON-CONFIDENTIAL INPUTS

Prepare your stator brief.

Send the scope and operating envelope first. Request an NDA before sharing proprietary artwork or detailed CAD. The next step is scope clarification and feasibility review; pricing and timing follow the agreed deliverable.

  • Tooth/segment drawing and revision; active diameters and axial stack envelope.
  • Electrical-steel or SMC grade, B-H/loss requirements and operating frequency.
  • Turns, conductor section, insulation system, termination and connection diagram.
  • Cooling boundary, winding temperature limit, duty cycle and sample/annual quantities.

Operating envelope (optional)

Enter target continuous values in the stated units. Describe peak duration, duty cycle and temperature limits in your summary. These inputs are requirements, not a product rating.

Selecting a request does not sign an NDA or confirm material availability or export clearance. We review the actual part, destination and documentation needs.

ENGINEERING FAQ

Before a stator quotation.

Can I request only segmented stator cores?

Yes. Select a bare-core scope and identify the drawing, material, quantity and acceptance records. Winding, insulation, carrier assembly and potting can be scoped separately.

Is SMC always better than laminated electrical steel?

No. Compare the actual flux path, frequency, loss curves, geometry, tooling and mechanical requirements. SMC can support three-dimensional magnetic paths; that does not establish lower loss in every design.

Can flat wire or litz wire be evaluated?

Include the conductor specification, turn count, bend limits, frequency and termination method. Feasibility and the winding process are confirmed after reviewing coil access and insulation requirements.

What should the stator quote separate?

Ask for tooling/NRE, samples, recurring part cost, winding/encapsulation, inspection, documentation and delivery assumptions as separate items. Pricing and lead time follow the reviewed scope.
